Zeiss Ikon Contina I had a Zeiss Ikon Contina IIa a few years back, before I started collecting properly, and sold it on ebay. Then I saw this at a good price in a charity shop and had to have it.Unlike the IIa and other expensive models this is a base model, without a meter or range finder it is simple to use. The lens has a focus ring and aperture/speed settings, so it certainly isn't a point and shoot model. To get the best out of this camera you have to step back, remember 'sunny 16' and gauge the distance by eye, then you should be able to get a good picture. Build wise, this is typical German quality. Heavy in the hand and solid in feel, the only other cameras that feel this way are the Zenits and, of course, my Lieca. This solid build assists the stability allowing alarmingly slow shutter speeds to be used hand held! just hold your breath if trying them out. The camera came with it's case and, unusually, original lens cap. Unfortunately there was no hand book, but that was easy to track down on line. All in all a nice camera. |
